More Life, 2018 Q3

2018 doing its level best to kick my butt into high gear, and it’s working so far. Q3 was relatively quieter socially, punctuated by the birth of Leon Artus Wolfgang and certain D&D-related expeditions, but work got turned up to 11.

I’m generally very tired but satisfied by the hustle.

Allow me to begin with one of my quarter highlights – we got to see Sasha Velour live!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sean took me for my birthday and i was OVER. THE. MOON. She was amazing, the local queens were amazing, we ran into some friends, and i got home at a reasonable hour, which just ticks all the boxes for me. Year 31, welcomed with much fabulousness.

Our D&D group took a trip up to Baguio to make up for a couple of slow months campaign-wise. I like to call it 48-hours-of-D&D but it was significantly less than that, because we also played a lot of Magic The Gathering in betwixt sessions, cooked each other meals, and tried to get around the rain-soaked city.

The drive up was the stuff of nightmares though.

Near-zero visibility. Can you believe? This is some Silent Hill crap.

I’ve been up to Baguio dozens of times but this was 100% the scariest. The weather didn’t get any lighter even as we arrived at my grandmother’s house, which continued to be pummelled by rain. At least we were indoors.

Overall a great trip. This, alongside my trip to Taipei with Sean, have been my only major breaks from work this year.

The summer slump came and went over at our design business, but as per usual our 4th quarter is looking very busy. To be honest, holding down a design job has allowed me to open the doors to photography again in a way that i am more comfortable with; having some financial legroom lets me be a little more selective with my client base. Photography is my true love after all, and i tend to get invested in my projects. I’ve learned that i can’t afford to just say yes to everything or i get burnt out.

So i have heralded my return to the wedding/couples/loveydovey industry (if my logo change is any indication), but this time under my own terms. I am tempted to go on a tirade about my frustrations with the wedding industry the first time around, and how i plan to subvert them with my new venture, but maybe i’ll go into greater detail at another time. Right now i’m happy to say i’m having the kinds of conversations i want to have with my inquirors, i’m booking clients i’m over the moon about, and I get way too excited when people ask me how i’m running this business. I promise i’ll write about it at a later date. In the meantime, here’s some stuff i shot with Nico and Maddie!

Happy to report that that lovely babybelly hath turned safely and healthily into this beautiful little lumpkin, my newest nephew Wolfenstein 3D.

LOOK. AT. HIS. LITTLE. FACE. LOOK AT IT.

Anyway i suppose it’s the baby portion of this blog post. If you aren’t interested that is simply not my problem :D (Quite surprised by the amount of passive-aggressive baby negativity i get but i guess that comes with the tita territory)

I restrained myself.

And before i go: some final artifacts from the quarter.

I suppose that’s it. Last one for the year upcoming, but hopefully i’ll have things to post before then.

  1. I vote for every future blog entry always having a significant baby portion. :D

Glad to hear things are going well and that you’re enjoying being busy — but that you also got to get away and relax a little! As always, thanks for sharing; I love seeing your photos here.

    1. Thanks as always for consistently being around to read my intermittent postings, Erica! I really do appreciate it! <3
